WINTERISING A PROBE
Winterising applies to accessories too!
Winterising your accessories, particularly probes, is an important step in maintaining your water treatment system, especially during the cold season. Here’s why it’s important:
1. Protect the probes from freezing.
2. Maintain measurement accuracy.
3. Reduce premature wear.
4. Make it easier to get the system up and running again in the spring.
To winterise your pH and Redox probes, follow these steps:
- Remove the probe from its probe holder. The probe holder contains two spacers and two
- seals: when you remove the probe, one seal and one spacer remain on it, whilst the other two remain in the probe holder. Fit the cap.
Take the winterising cap (supplied with the probe) and pour in the KCl winterising solution. pH and Redox probes must be winterised in a dedicated solution to ensure the system can be restarted the following season. Place the probe in the solution: unscrew, insert the probe and screw back on. Store upright.
When restarting, do not forget to calibrate your pH probe with the pH 7 and pH 10 solutions, and the Redox probe with the 475 mV solution.
That’s it, you’ve winterised your probe.
